Customer service was excellent, they listen and i received a replacement radio with excellent sound quality for a small radio. I also figued out how to obtain a better signal for the radio stations. I think i was not patient. As a matter of fact, the usb power cord acts as an additional antennae on my unit. I selected this radio as it met most of my requirements and performs well.

The Good:
- It''s lightweight and compact.
- Gets AM/FM/shortwave/NOAA stations.
- Easy to use controls.
- Good stand-by battery life.
- Good flashlight and reading light.
- Decent alarm.
- Several power options (Li-ion battery, 3 AAA batteries, hand crank, external power via mini USB.)

The Bad:
- Not waterproof.
- The cover for the USB sockets/headphone jack won''t stay in place.
- Short antenna.

The size and weight is good for camping and short-to-moderate hiking trips. The housing is sturdy so it will survive some banging around and accidental drops. Sound quality is fair (people complaining about sound quality for music have unrealistic expectations for an emergency radio.) While it isn''t waterproof/resistant, it should function in mist, fog, light rain or snow (if not exposed for very long.) Overall, I''m happy with the radio.

Don''t be fooled by the solar cell. It is NOT for charging the battery if it dies. It is barely sufficient to maintain an already charged battery. That''s all it is for. If you expect it to charge a drained battery, you will be sorely disappointed.

The inclusion of the carabiner is almost laughable. Sure, it''ll clip on to things but it feels more like an after-thought, probably added because some other manufacturer included one.

Welcome improvements that would elevate this to a great product:
A larger antenna would be nice to help with reception. Alternatively, the ability to swap out the antenna or attach an external antenna would be nice. Since this is advertised as an emergency radio, signal reception is of paramount importance.

The inclusion of SAME would be great. I''ve gotten alerts in the early hours of the morning targeted at coastal waters - 4 counties east of my location! If I could program in just my county and one or two others near me, that would cut down on the alerts I don''t need to receive. This would require redesigning the controls to allow entering the 6-digit SAME codes but I would gladly pay more for this.

An emergency radio should have some level of waterproofing/resistance. When hiking/camping or in many emergency situations, there is a high probability of being exposed to some form of moisture, be it rain, fog, snow, mist, or some body of water like a river or lake. The enclosure should have some measure of resistance to moisture because an emergency radio won''t help in an emergency if it shorts out.

Note: if you get this radio and leave it on all the time, you WILL get a NOAA alert once a week.
