Then it goes from browning the wood at the mid mark to burning it black just past the mid mark. No gradual browning, just light to dark with a very small turn of the dial. I found several reviews on line where they were experiencing the same problems with it. So I know it''s not just the burner I got.

If I wanted a burner with just on/off one single heat setting I''d buy the $15.00 one at Hobby Lobby.

Also, the "volt meter" doesn''t seem to do anything except look cool. And on the Plus side, it was comfortable to hold and it did not heat up in my hand. But then again, I only used it for a few minutes. The burner holder was great.

I love drawing in pencil and woodburning seems to have came natural.

The settings for this burner are very very sensitive. While I have seen reviews on YouTube for this, they don''t seem to grasp this and don''t like it without giving it a chance. I burn only on settings between 30-40, mostly being 35-38. Even a minor adjustment makes a difference so keep that in mind. Once you get used to it, it''s easy to finely adjust with the dial.

The tips have a lot of variety and seem like good quality.

If I get another burner in the future, I''ll edit my review to compare as this was a Christmas gift and I hear good things about Colwood. I had purchased two cheaper versions of burners, one being a Walnut Hallow Creative, and the other one that “looks” like this current model but neither would get hot enough to finish a project I had started. I think it is not always the person doing the project but the tools you have. This applies here. I could have finished this project from onset rather than getting discouraged that the desired effect was not happening.

The temperature control, the handle and nibs are all far superior to the others I have tried. The WH-Creative was nice for quickly switching nibs but temp a tire never got to where I needed. Without pulling it apart I suspect there are the cheapest electronics inside for the controls, it definitely feels like there is some kind of electrical foolery going on here. There is a tiny dial that is supposedly to adjust the range of setting for the hand dial -in my case it did nothing at all. Save your money here and buy a different product.
