Product Description
Control beam shape with one hand. COAST’s Slide Focus system enables you to seamlessly transition between spot and flood beam with the push or pull your finger. Responsive beam-shape control allows you to operate your light with a single hand and keep the other hand free.
See the whole scene at once. The Wide Angle Flood Beam illuminates the broadest possible area with vivid, consistent light from edge to edge.
Hit your target with power. Always on point, the Bulls-Eye Spot Beam fixes a bright “hot spot” on the object, surrounded by a soft halo of transitional light to increase the total field of view.
Control flashlight power with the push of a button. COAST’s Quick-Cycle Switch makes it easy to move between full light, medium light, lowest light, and strobe by simply pressing the on/off button multiple times. An additional capability, available on some models, is a momentary switch that illuminates the optic when the power button is partially depressed.
Set the beam to stay how you like it. COAST Beam Lock technology makes our Slide Focusing system even more valuable, with the option to lock the beam in place on spot, flood, or anywhere in between.
Built for the hand, designed for performance. COAST lights with a Quick-Cycle Tail switch integrate the on/off button into the tail cap of the flashlight. Familiar to tactical law enforcement professionals, this feature enables you to hold the light in your fist with your thumb at the rear on the tail-switch and hold the light up and away from your body with fast-action control.
The exterior contours of the tail cap, squared off at the end, allow the light to be balanced on end for vertical lighting applications.
Coast runtimes are tested to ANSI/FL1 Standards, so you can trust the HP7 will work long into the night

I bought this flashlight after buying a pocket sized penlight that was quite well built and bright for its size. This flashlight has been my goto when camping, has been beat up, dropped in the mud, stepped on but nothing seems to phase it. It''s also small enough to fit in my pocket, but large enough to provide plenty of light for both of my kids and myself to make it to the bathroom during camping trips, or to find a small object we may have dropped. I normally use it on low, but there''s three settings. Finally, battery life seems to be very good as well. I would estimate that I get 10-12 hours of usage, mostly on low.
Coast is now my goto company for flashlights. I''ve had some other quality flashlights over the years that ended up getting lost, but Coast provides a better flashlights in more compact sizes that I haven''t seen from others.

Because various details including maximum lumens and battery run time differ between what is posted on the official coastporland.com website and here on amazon, as well as the max lumens listed in the product title for each light on Amaon differs from that detailed in the product description section, I was hesitant about ordering from Amazon.
I ended up emailing Coast regarding both the HP14 and HL27 to shine light on this issue and see if Amazon is selling old versions under the same model names. Here''s the reply I got back:
"Our specs are the current and updated specs. Amazon may not have the updated spec sheet up on their site yet. They order directly through us so they should have the current product." --- [email protected]"
Fantastic news! So bottom line...ordering directly from Amazon will get you the most up-do-date flashlight at a discounted price in comparison to ordering directly from Coast''s website.
Tip to Amazon Customer Service...please update the product description for each light, it''s pretty confusing to everyone.

I''ve had two of these flashlights now. Both have become unreliable. The light does not turn on when the button is pressed sometimes. Sometimes it will come on after a few pushes of the button, sometimes it comes on after tapping it against something (my knee usually). Other times it turns on just like it''s supposed to. It seems to be very well made - which is why I bought the second one, assuming the first one was a fluke. I''ve had the second one for about three months and it''s had this trouble for a month or two now. Intermittently, but enough that I don''t trust the light to turn on and stay on in an emergency. I''m sending the second one back to their warranty department (at my own expense apparently). Hopefully the next one will be as reliable as other reviewers suggest it should be.

I purchased this to replace a similar flashlight that was run over by a trailer mounted 400K generator. It continued to work even with a broken lens until the battery went bad and could not be replaced due to the elliptical shape of the body. There are probably brighter flashlights out there, and certainly cheeper ones. I use this for mechanic work and it is bright enough most of the time. And it is plenty tough for its price range. I have dropped this new one a few times on the concrete floor and while I cringe every time it is still working. I would highly recommend this if you are looking for a good flashlight at a reasonable price.

This is for the HP7 – since Amazon buckets a lot of different models together, effectively mixing reviews. Perfect flashlight. Uses 4 small AAA batteries loaded via the included magazine. Can stand upright acting as an area torch. Button on bottom lets you cycle through high-medium-low modes. (Depress halfway down and up to do so more quickly than a full click.) Lastly, the beam is a *perfect* circle, and perfectly uniformly bright across that entire lit area. If you are accustomed to non-LED flashlights, the difference is huge. Rotate and extend the head slightly to change from flood to spot, ideal for lighting something very far away. Uses 1 super-bright LED, not a honeycomb of lower tech LEDs. Note the front glass is curved and not flat, perhaps making it a bit harder to clean, which seems like the most minor of problems. Belt-holster, lanyard, and batteries included. See included photo for details on lumen, distance, and runtime limits for all three brightness levels.

I''ve bought and reviewed several inexpensive, small “tactical” flashlights at Amazon. For me, brightness and price are the most important factors. I bought this one (Coast) way back in 2013 on a "lightning deal" for $43. Current price at Amazon is $32. Compared to the other flashlights in this class, this one has a very solid, heavy feel. It''s not rechargeable, which I think is a good thing. Like most of the other flashlights in this class, it has a cylindrical clip for batteries that you slide in. Most take three (3) AA batteries – the clip for this one takes four (4). So you might expect a brighter light. The brightness is excellent, but not noticeably better than either the generic Outlite A100 High Powered Tactical Flashlight - Ultra Bright LED Handheld Flashlight - Portable Outdoor Water Resistant Torch with Adjustable Focus and 5 Light Modes for Camping Hiking etc or the Anker LC40 LED Flashlight, Pocket-Sized LED Torch, Super Bright 400 Lumens CREE LED, IP65 Water Resistant, 3 Modes High/Low/Strobe for Indoors and Outdoors (Camping, Hiking, Cycling and Emergency Use), both of which are currently under $15 at Amazon. In comparing brightness, I do not consider claimed lumens. Those claims can be very misleading. I instead go into a dark room, get the beams to the same width, and as much as possible from the same distance, and then compare brightness. These are the three flashlights in this class that I like the most. The Outlike is actually a generic that is offered by many different sellers, under different names, and at different prices.
With batteries, the Coast weighs 7.2 ounces, the Outlike generic 6.6 ounces, and the Anker 3.8.
The light on the Coast is very even when zoomed out to it''s largest beam. No hint of rings or intense spots at the center. The light is “warm” with a slightly yellowish tint. The generic Outlite and the Anker have colder, slightly bluish tints. Not saying one tint is better than the other. All depends on what you prefer.
Like the Anker, the Coast has no annoying blinking modes. The flashlight is either on or off, but there is a high and a low light mode. Like the generic Outlike, but unlike the Anker, you can telescope/zoom the beam to make it wider or narrower. And like any of the other flashlights that have the telescoping/zooming feature, the smaller the beam, the brighter the light. I would say that the light on the Coast is most impressive when it''s at its widest angle. Aside from what feels like a very solid build, that''s the one factor where the Coast may have a slight advantage over the other two.

Over the last decade, more or less, I''ve come to think of Coast LED products as the best I''ve come across. I have a few of their headlamps, a couple tiny ones, a larger flashlight, and a small lantern....and now the HP7.
A week ago, under a brilliant starry night, we were out having fun doing long exposure night photography and "painting" objects with flashlights...experimenting as we looked at the DSLR screen. I wanted a better "painting" light, and researched what other photographers used, and recommended. I wanted a unit with variable light output, and focus. I came across this light, and since I am familiar with Coast, decided to buy it.
Wow. This is a well made unit, with quality everywhere. A great size and weight. The ease of one finger focusing is smooth and without effort using one finger of the hand holding the unit. The light pattern is unbelievable, going from a high center spot, surrounded by a lower lumen area, to a perfectly lighted circle with no center hot spot. The circular pattern has a sharp edge cutoff. I think of theater play spotlight fixtures with such precision. The same precision patterns show for the high or low settings.
Another thing I love is the rear button. Push once, and the high power comes on, push again and the light goes off, and then push again, and the low power is on (unless one waits too long, but the length of time, whatever it is, seems fine). The low power is nice lighting. I haven''t taken it out for night photography "painting" yet, but I believe having the choice of hi/low and precision light cutoffs means this baby is going to do the trick.
Two other things I wanted in a unit: a unit that doesn''t have the very annoying hit for on-high, hit again for low, hit again for strobe, and maybe another, before hitting again to turn it off. I hate those, I mean come on, how many users want the annoying strobe? I also didn''t want special, and expensive batteries like some units use - I wanted either AA''s or AAA''s....like this unit.
This is a bright light, and certainly good for all uses, unless one wants to brag about having something like a billion candlepower (and pays for the rights by chewing through batteries!).
Recommend? Absolutely.

Wish it was still working, now it''s pretty much useless.
The adjustable focus was great when it was working and it seemed really well made! Hopefully I just got a quirky one.

I bought this a few months ago with the consideration of trying a new brand of high quality flashlights. I went from using an LED Lenser product to Coast. As a Aircraft mechanic I use my flashlight everyday for inspections of all types and it is my most used tool. I was skeptical as to something wrong with the HP7 after a set of batteries only lasted about 2 or 3 days before I had to replace them. And on top of that it was temperamental and would decide to cut out on me all the time. So far it''s been a completely unreliable experience and I can''t depend on this product for doing my job. I''m sure I got a dud, but I still would not recommend this product. Edit : I ended up shaving off about 1/16"-1/8", off the end of the tube to have a more positive pressure on the contacts. It seemed to have fixed the problem and haven''t had any problems since. So there is definitely a quality control/assurance issue going on with this product.
